About

Liam McLaughlin — Founder, LM Ventures Limited

Approximately 45 years of hands-on construction experience, from qualified bricklayer to managing complete residential building projects across London.

Building knowledge gained on site.

Liam started his working life as a bricklayer and holds a City & Guilds qualification in Bricklaying. Over the following decades he worked his way through groundworks, drainage, demolition, structural alterations and steelwork before taking on complete construction projects.

That breadth is the difference. When a structural detail needs resolving on site, or a sequence needs rethinking because of what has been uncovered behind a wall, the decision is made by someone who has done the work himself. It is knowledge gained on site, not just behind a desk.

LM Ventures Limited was established to take on substantial residential projects under that same principle — an experienced builder in charge of the build, supported by a settled team of tradespeople he has worked with for years.

Liam is comfortable working directly from architectural drawings, structural calculations and structural engineers' specifications, and equally comfortable talking a homeowner through what a set of drawings means in practice.

Career

Forty-five years, one trade at a time.

  1. Trade Foundation

    City & Guilds qualified bricklayer

Liam's career began on the tools as a bricklayer, qualifying through City & Guilds and learning how buildings are actually put together, course by course.

  2. Broadening Experience

    Groundworks, drainage and demolition

From brickwork he moved into the works that set a project up properly: excavation, foundations, below-ground drainage, demolition and structural preparation.

  3. Structural Work

    Structural alterations and steelwork

Removing load-bearing structure, forming new openings and installing steel to engineers' calculations — work where temporary support and sequencing have to be right.

  4. Today

    Complete project management

Liam now manages substantial residential projects from start to finish, coordinating an established team of electricians, plumbers, carpenters, plasterers, roofers and decorators.

Approach

How Liam runs a project.

  • Clear communication

Clients and design teams are told what is happening, when, and what is needed from them.

  • Clean, organised sites

A tidy site is a safe site and a sign of how the rest of the work is being handled.

  • Reliability

Turning up, following through and doing what was agreed.

  • Keeping to schedule

Programme is managed actively — trades booked in the right order, materials on site in time.

  • Attention to detail

The small things are checked as the work goes, not chased at handover.

  • Pride in workmanship

Genuine care about the finished result, because the work carries his name.
